Tyrian-born fighting with heroes without Nightfall
I was in Lion's Arch enjoying the decoration and talking to ppl about their titles when someone asked for a party to do a quest for Elonians that come to Tyria.
My char is Tyria-born and I don't have Nightfall. We went outside and slayed a few lv 24 elementalists. I think the Elonians got a new hero to play with and after completing the quest they mapped out and surprise-surprise, their heroes stayed with me! I got to have some fun farming (really) caromi scalps...
As soon as I mapped into town the heroes disappeared. It was fun while it lasted, and they had a very good interrupt build. To me its one of the most powerful features of the heroes system, u can get better interrupts and shutdowns that with some (most) human players and make PUG more balanced.

if they are not your heroes, you cannot change their skill bar, equipment, attributes.
you can only see the skills if you click on them and see them using them.

Did the Hero feature impress you to buy Nightfall by chance?

I've noticed heroes of other people always stay. If you think about it, it makes sense. For example, if you are doing a mission with one other person + your combined 6 heroes, things could get nasty if he/she error 7'd near the end and took not just one player but 4 along with them.

My mesmer is now fighting in Tyria (the first few missions) with her Heros -- she's wearing her witches hat and teaching the charr the meaning of quiet death.
It's odd, though, having heros instead of Alesia and the crew. Much better -- just weird.

Yes it makes sense that they stay. I just found interesting to not have Nightfall and still be able to use then on my own.

I will buy Nightfall eventually, but not because of a single feature, but because of the whole thing. I finnished the all the content available at the preview weekend and heros really are sooo much better than regular henchmen.

Yes, heroes stay in the party even if their "owner" maps out.

I foresee Titan quests becoming MUCH MUCH easier (as in you can get a full party with the mix you want)

I've already done the Droknar's, Denravi and Ascalon titan quest with heroes/henchies. Easy as pie, I got them all on the first attempt. I tried the Kryta one, but that one didn't work out very well. I'm doing that one later this week with a friend. I fully expect to be able to solo the Titan Source after that.

I think the hero system works ok, could do with a few tweaks here and there but it works well.
One thing I noticed, with the necro, he raises minions very quickly and has lots up. When I play mine and use the shambling horrors, it is a long recharge but he is bringing them up like there is no tomorrow!
Still not 100% sure on their exp gain? I have taken them with me when I went out vermin farming, which give me +64xp each kill. Koss was lvl 2 on going out and was still lvl 2 going back in, I keep them just out of agro range but they still share gold etc... so I would have thought they still gain exp? It's not something stupid like they only gain exp from the chapter they belong to is it? Oh, it was not just 1 run either, I did several with no change!

They changed the proximity for xp to agro bubble to discourage powerleveling.
